PSAT/NMSQT Information
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT Reasoning Test.
The
PSAT/NMSQT also gives 11th grade students an opportunity to qualify to enter
National Merit Scholarship Programs, the
National Hispanic Recognition Program,, or the
National Achievement Scholarship Program. The PSAT/NMSQT measures critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills, and writing skills. The PSAT/NMSQT results provide students with feedback on their strengths and weaknesses and, therefore, can be used to focus preparation on those areas that could most benefit from additional study or practice. The
PSAT/NMSQT is composed of five sections which are two 25 minute critical reading sections, two 25 minute math sections, and one 30 minute writing skills section. The PSAT/NMSQT score reports provide three different scores on the 20 – 80 scale: one each for the critical reading skills, math skills, and the writing skills sections.
The PSAT/NMSQT is administered at no cost to students by the
San Antonio ISD during the second week of October to
all 9th grade students and to
11th grade students that would like to enter the competition for scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The total testing time for the PSAT/NMSQT is 2 hours and 10 minutes.
