EXPLORE Information
The EXPLORE assesses a student’s knowledge and skills with multiple-choice tests of 28-40 minutes in four academic areas – English, reading, mathematics and science. Test results are distributed to each student by campus personnel. Based on a maximum score of 25, each academic test result allows a student to develop a high school coursework plan specifically focused on college preparation and provides a comparison with other students on the home campus, within the district and across the nation. Additionally, an Interest Inventory uses student answers to 90 questions to point out regions of the world of work that student may wish to consider and explore.
High school counselors will automatically place into a 9th grade pre-AP class all of those students who score at or above the "On Target for Texas College Readiness" level determined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
EXPLORE scores are also used by the high schools for recruitment for the AVID program, which provides selected students with academic support and encouragement for the journey toward college success.
EXPLORE Test Date
Each middle school and academy campus will conduct EXPLORE testing of all its 8th graders on the home campus between November 6 and November 8, 2007.
